We’ve Moved!

A new home for NAMI Colorado Springs

As you may have heard, in late February, NAMI Colorado Springs decided to close its office at 510 E. Willamette Ave. During a renovation of the building’s basement, the contractor discovered a mold issue. Spore levels were lower in the work area upstairs, but we still felt it would be irresponsible to host staff, volunteers and clients regularly on site.

The mold issue forced us to square off with foundation problems, as well as more minor problems with the building’s sewer line and an elevated radon level, also in the basement. Within days, our modest improvement project — designed to open more workspace for our growing staff — turned into something more daunting and very costly. After much research and discussion with staff and volunteers, NAMI’s board, major donors, community leaders, and construction and real estate professionals, we’ve decided to move the organization’s office.

As of Monday, May 6, 2019, NAMI’s new home will be 1615 S. Murray Blvd., at the Silver Key Senior Services campus. In addition to ample office space, this site offers a room large enough to host classes and support groups. And it’s close not only to Silver Key, but also to new Peak Vista and AspenPointe locations, and is fully accessible. We have a two-year lease, which will give us time to explore our long-term options.

As for NAMI’s longtime home at 510 E. Willamette, it is with some sadness that we will put it on the market. We’ve made this decision with the blessing of Elaine McWain, who so generously gifted the building to NAMI in 2014. Realtors within the NAMI family are bullish on the prospect of getting an excellent return on the property in such an active real estate market.

Meanwhile, we are looking forward to turning our full attention back to what we do best: providing the mental health-related services that this community has depended on for more than 35 years.

Once we’re settled in, we’ll plan an open house. Of course you are welcome to stop by anytime once the doors open Monday, May 6. And if you want to get in touch before then, please don’t hesitate to email or call. We recognize that this is a big change, and we intend to make it alongside the volunteers, donors, other supporters and staff members who have made NAMI into the organization it is today.

Thank you very much for continuing with us on the next leg of NAMI’s journey.
