Building real connections
In NAMI Colorado Springs’ most popular program, a community of people comes together each week to listen, share and encourage one another. Register once and drop in anytime after that.
This group might be for you if:
- You're 18 or older and living with a mental health condition
- You want to connect with others who truly understand your experiences
- You're ready to explore coping strategies that have worked for real people
- You're looking for a safe, judgment-free space
Some of the topics we cover
- How to rise above hard times
- Treatment and support options
- Relationships and social support
- Difficult feelings and beliefs
- Journeys to and strategies for recovery
A place to connect through shared experiences
Walk into a group, and you've taken a brave step toward better mental health.
Power to the peers
Our facilitators are not clinicians. They’re trained volunteers and staff members with lived experience.
Casual setting
You’ll find some chairs in a circle, a few posters and a lot of kind hellos.
Judgment free
Understanding and community are the
names of the game. (We can have two names, right?)

Frequently Asked Questions
What people often ask about our connection support group.
All NAMI programs are offered at no cost to participants.
You’ll get a chance to share what’s going on in your life … but you can also just listen and learn. Participate to whatever degree you feel comfortable.
Yes, everything shared in the group stays within the group. We ask all participants to respect each other’s privacy.
Meetings are facilitated by trained NAMI peer leaders who have personal experience with mental health conditions. They guide discussions and ensure a safe, supportive environment for all participants.
First United Methodist Church has been kind enough to offer space at NAMI for no cost, for years. But the group itself is completely secular.
There happen to be 12 “principles of support” that help set the tone for support group meetings. These are things like “We don’t judge anyone else’s pain as less than our own,” and “We embrace humor as healthy.” But we do not use a 12-step model.
